All set for The Great Illawarra Walk, last chance to register

It’s not too late to register for The Great Illawarra Walk which will be held this Saturday to help KidsWish in its mission of fulfilling the lives of children living with disability or illness and their families through supportive programs, special events and community projects.

The weather forecast is for sunny and warm conditions for the hundreds of dedicated community members will make the trek from Shellharbour to Austinmer.

KidsWish was thrilled to be chosen as the charity partner for this year’s annual event where hundreds of people will take on the 40km journey.

With the introduction of the all-inclusive KidsWish Blue Mile along the Wollongong foreshore, everyone can participate even if they aren’t able to do the full course.

This 1.5km stretch, from Belmore Basin to Stuart Park, will end with a mini festival near the new All Ages All Abilities playground.

Parents and carers don’t need to register if their kids want to take part in the KidsWish Blue Mile but only registered walkers will receive a shirt and lunch.

There will be plenty of free family fun activities at Stuart Park from 11.30am-1.30pm, including face painting, reptile encounters, a St George Illawarra Dragons activation, bubbles and music by i98FM.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Illawarra’s Friendly Neighbourhood Spidey, BumbleBee and some of the Harry Potter crew.

Spidey and crew.

Entry for the Walk is $50 for adults and $20 for children, which includes an event T-shirt and lunch provided by the Rapid Relief Team. All funds raised from this year’s event will be donated to KidsWish.

Head to The Great Illawarra Walk website for more information and to register as an individual, register your own team or join the KidsWish Team.

The first walkers will depart Shellharbour Village at 7am from the Bean Roasted Espresso Bar on Addison Street.

This beloved annual event, which has raised nearly $1.2 million over the past 16 years, couldn’t happen without the phenomenal support from the Illawarra community.

Several local businesses have dug deep to sponsor water stations to quench the walkers’ thirst and cheer them along.

Illawarra Security Guards

Strata Consolidation Resin Injection, Lake Illawarra Hotel, One Agency, Bright Star Kids Group, Wollongong Podiatry, Circulation Health, Incar Installations, Joint Vision Orthopaedic Group and Macey Insurance have sponsored water stations to help the walkers stay hydrated on their way to the picturesque Headlands Hotel at Austinmer.
