KidsWish Science Spectacular 2024
The KidsWish Science Spectacular returned for its third year, on Thursday 26 September, offering children living with disability or illness and their families exclusive access to the incredible Science Space
Dozens of participants from The Disability Trust and KidsWish programs showed off their artistic flair at Shell Cove on Monday to bring a fantastic new mural to life.
The colourful artwork is part of the latest stage of murals for the PromenART walk at Shell Cove Marina.
KidsWish and The Disability Trust were thrilled to receive the invitation to take part in the multi-year project in conjunction with The Waterfront Shell Cove, Frasers Property Australia and Shellharbour City Council, which is being facilitated by Kao Kreative.
Local Indigenous organisation Gamaraa also participated in the mural painting, creating a design based around Burri Burri the whale, the totem for the Illawarra.
The colourful murals, along with previous artworks which were unveiled last year in the first stage of the project, will help brighten the Shell Cove marina foreshore.
Kao Kreative approached The Disability Trust and KidsWish about being part of the project and came up with an eye-catching design which showcases the people who are supported by each organisation.
The term “inclusive world” has been incorporated into the mural to pay tribute to The Disability Trust’s vision of “creating an inclusive world built on trust, respect and equality, where people with a disability live the life they choose”.
“Fulfilling lives” represents the KidsWish mission of “fulfilling the lives of children with disability or illness and their families through supportive programs, special events and community projects, with a goal of building an inclusive community that can be enjoyed by all”.
KidsWish Stakeholder Engagement and Fundraising Manager Emily Wright and The Disability Trust Marketing Manager Melissa Murdoch were thrilled by the support the mural received from participants who picked up a paintbrush to add their creativity to the project.
The mural work is designed to provoke conversations and add a new dimension to the beautiful natural surrounds of The Waterfront Shell Cove.
We’d love to hear how yourself or someone you know has been impacted by KidsWish.
