Bright purple and orange socks brought a splash of colour to the Wollongong Wolves for their second annual KidsWish Charity Match at WIN Stadium.
Unfortunately, the Wolves went down 2-1 to Sydney Olympic in their National Premier Leagues NSW Round 23 contest but there were still plenty of memorable moments with a bumper crowd in attendance creating a great atmosphere.
There was lots of positive feedback about the eye-catching socks, featuring the mighty Wolves logo. It was the first time the club has worn different coloured socks to their playing strip for charity.
If you would like to purchase these commemorative socks, they are still available for $20 – email events@kidswish.org.au before it’s too late.
Apart from the result, the charity match was a success with all funds raised helping support our mission to deliver free programs and events for children living with disability or illness and their families.
KidsWish volunteers handed out bang bang cheer sticks and team posters to supporters and there was also a fan fest station set up where fans could get their hair sprayed, glitter and zinc applied in Wolves colours.
The Disability Trust’s White Knights soccer team also did some training drills on the field before the main game while some KidsWish Sports Academy kids walked the players out for the start of the match.
At half-time four competitors who had liked and commented on the competition’s social media post on the KidsWish Facebook page lined up for the penalty shoot-out.

An eight-year-old rising star named Hudson won the PlayStation 5 first prize with the runner-up, Bas, receiving a $200 voucher thanks to the generosity of Community Health Group.
A raffle was also drawn with the lucky winners walking away with a signed 2023 World Cup Matildas jersey, a $350 Harvey Norman voucher and Wollongong Wolves merchandise packs.
KidsWish would like to thank The Berkeley Hotel for sponsoring the bang bang sticks, Neil Webster from Stone Real Estate, Australian Nurse Care and Community Health Group, as well as the mighty Wollongong Wolves. And a shout out to My Sport Socks for their support with the production of the socks.
Players stayed back after the game to sign posters and pose for photos with fans.
